Mid-Year Update: What We Have Built and What Is Coming Next
By Jotter Team
Five months in
Jotter launched on April 2, 2026. Five months later, we want to share an honest update on where things stand -- what has gone well, what we have learned, and what we are building next.
What we have shipped since launch
Since April, we have released regular updates to both the iOS and Android apps. Here are some of the highlights:
- Performance improvements -- faster sync, quicker app startup, and smoother scrolling on job lists with hundreds of line items.
- Improved offline resilience -- better conflict resolution when multiple team members edit the same job offline.
- Company Manager Portal updates -- the web dashboard for admins has been refined with better reporting and an improved audit trail.
- Bug fixes -- dozens of small fixes based on real feedback from real users. Every support message gets read and most bugs get fixed within a week.
What we have learned
Launching a product teaches you things that research cannot. Here are a few things we have learned from watching real trades teams use Jotter:
- Setup time matters more than feature count. Teams that got to their first completed job within 10 minutes of downloading were far more likely to stick with the app. We have focused on reducing every point of friction in the setup flow.
- Timer adoption is high. We expected some users to skip the timers and enter time manually. Most teams use the timers for everything. The Lock Screen visibility on iPhone and persistent notification on Android made a real difference -- people actually use the feature because they can see it without opening the app.
- Industry packs are a strong hook. Users who applied an industry pack during setup were more likely to keep using Jotter. Having pre-configured item tags for their specific trade made the app feel tailored rather than generic.
- Invoicing accuracy is the value prop, not efficiency. We positioned Jotter as saving time on invoicing. What users actually tell us is that the real value is accuracy -- capturing hours and materials they would have otherwise forgotten. The time saving is a bonus; the money recovered is the real payoff.
What is on the roadmap
We are a small team and we are deliberate about what we add. Jotter will not become a 200-feature platform. But there are a few things we are working on:
- Photo attachments -- attach photos to jobs and line items. Before-and-after shots, damage documentation, proof of work. This has been the most requested feature.
- Recurring jobs -- for maintenance contracts and regular scheduled work. Create a template job that regenerates on a schedule.
- Improved reporting -- more insights in the Company Manager Portal. Revenue by customer, time by team member, materials usage trends.
- Xero App Marketplace listing -- we are working through the approval process to get Jotter listed on the Xero App Store. This will make it easier for Xero users to discover and trust Jotter.
We also have a public feature request board at jotterjobs.featurevote.app where you can see what others have requested and vote on what matters most to you.
What is not on the roadmap
Scheduling and quoting both shipped this year, go and try them in the app. We are still not building fleet tracking or GPS. These are legitimate needs, but they are not Jotter's focus. If you need them, Tradify and Fergus do them well. Jotter is the simple path from "job booked" to "invoice in Xero." We would rather do a few things properly than ten things poorly.
Thank you
To everyone who has downloaded Jotter, connected their Xero account, and given us feedback -- thank you. We read every support message, every app review, and every feature request. You are shaping what this product becomes.
If you have not tried Jotter yet, the free plan is still there -- 2 seats, every feature, no time limit. Give it a go.
